About

My name is Ben Fredrickson. I started Olaf Consulting with a simple idea: getting the little things right matters. This is true whether you’re managing a relationship with a client or building a website.

It’s also true when setting a fence post.

Back in the late ‘80s, my dad started a solo handyman business called “Handy Olaf,” a nod to our Swedish heritage. He had no formal training – just some basic woodworking experience, a meticulous attention to detail, and a can-do attitude. Nonetheless, he soon developed a reputation in the neighborhood for high quality work that stood the test of time.

My tool collection pales in comparison to his, but I channel that same ethos with my clients.

How I got here

I took an unconventional path into the SEO world when I joined the content team at the Universal Life Church over a decade ago – and unwittingly found myself in the middle of one of the internet’s most competitive (and admittedly, slightly unhinged) SEO battles.

A little quirky? Sure. I also learned how to win in a highly competitive space. Over 10 years, I helped the ULC rank #1 for high-value terms like “get ordained online,” designed landing pages that converted millions of users, and built an email list of 500k+ subscribers.

In 2019, I co-founded Big Later, an email-based course that translated typically-dry financial advice into a fun and digestible format. Thousands of readers and countless “Finally opened my Roth IRA”s later, we were acquired by a leading fintech company.

For the past 5+ years, I’ve leveraged this experience to help other companies dial in their SEO and marketing strategies. I work with businesses across a range of industries: fintech, wealth management, healthcare, local services, and more.

My approach

Your digital presence is a strategic asset for growth, but it’s also a reflection of your values. Investing in a strong online foundation has compounding effects, creating value as you build trust with clients and customers while also converting traffic and driving the bottom line.

My process focuses on the fundamentals of digital marketing: user-friendly web experiences, technically sound SEO, and content designed to convert – all backed by analytics to help you understand what’s working and what isn’t.
